Hip Hop Coach
Hip Hop Coach is the new Key Stage 2 curriculum-based music resource to teach students: Beatboxing, Composition, Djing, Digging, Lyrics, Mixing, Music Production and Technology, Poetic Techniques, Sampling, Scratching, Sequencing and Music Terminology.
Paul Fletcher (MD Charanga), Max Wheeler (Musician and Hip Hop consultant) and Andy Murray (independent music ICT education consultant) have taken Hip Hop to a structured national level through the recent launch of Hip Hop Coach. This allows teachers to steer differentiated pathways through the materials and support pupils’ performing, composing and listening skills without needing to be a Hip Hop expert.
PrimaryMusic provides this resource with fully interactive activities and stand-alone tutorial presentations.
Pupils:
- learn music that they choose, like and identify with
- learn by listening to and copying familiar recordings
- learn and create alongside friends
- learn in personal, organic ways
- improve vocal performance/confidence
Hip Hop Coach:
- ensures an integration of listening, performing, improvising and composing
- provides full teaching notes and activities
- teaches awareness of stylistic conventions and their historical development
- deals with swearing and criminal policy issues
This resource gives teachers and students transferable skills, cross curricular links and is ideal in both formal and informal (Musical Futures) learning situations for devising new and imaginative ways of engaging juniors in music activities.
