Music Co-ordinator/Class Teacher (music specialist)

The role of Music Co-ordinator or teacher with music specialism can be very demanding. In addition to your own teaching responsibilities and ensuing extra music activities you will often be asked to provide help for other colleagues who are less confident in delivering music. The interactive music resources offered bring together a breadth of materials, are easy to use and designed to support you, and the other members of staff in this situation.

The resources, which include songs, pieces, quizzes and videos, can relate directly to your school’s scheme of work, the delivery of whole class instrumental/vocal tuition, and the national curriculum for music. Additionally they can support links to other curriculum areas, particularly useful for topic based learning. There are a range of search facilities to help this.

To support your colleagues you may prefer to build banks of lesson resources, relating to your school’s music scheme of work or you may choose to encourage them to do this themselves, possibly in partnership with visiting instrumental/vocal specialists.

Pupils are motivated and engaged by the materials which, together with your expertise and inspiration, meet all their learning needs and promote hands on practical music making. Using the resources will also help free you to assess their progress more easily.

All the resources from the website can be accessed online or downloaded to your computer’s hard drive, a disk or a memory stick. You can also print out the music and save the backing tracks as mp3 files so they can be used if you, or your pupils, do not have access to an interactive white board or a computer and projector. This allows the resources to be revisited during the week, in class, or sent home.

"The PrimaryMusic resources are fantastically engaging for kids and the interactive activities often give me the rare opportunity in a music lesson to stand back, observe and assess their progress.”"
